Forty years ago, The Twilight Zone premiered on CBS and entered the our culture's consciousness. While Rod Serling wrote two-thirds of the episodes, most of the rest were contributed by four men: Charles Beaumont, Richard Matheson, Jerry Sohl, and George Clayton Johnson. They also formed the core of The Group: an informal association of writers in Southern California (which also included Harlan Ellison, Robert Bloch, Theodore Sturgeon, William F. Nolan, and others) who played together, worked together, and created some of the best and most imaginative stories, television, and movies of our time. Filmfax #75/76, our blockbuster, millenium- ending, double-sized issue features exclusive interviews with Matheson, Sohl, and Johnson; an essay by the late Charles Beaumont on the beginnings of The Twilight Zone; an extensive essay by Christopher Conlon on the history of The Group; an exclusive essay by Johnson on writing for The Twilight Zone; and an interview with actress Karen Black on Matheson and Nolan's TV movie, Trilogy of Terror.
