UNNATURAL (1952) Erich von Stroheim, Hildegarde Neff. A strange scientist creates a beautiful femme fatale via artificial insemination. Because her heritage is artificial, she appears to have no soul or inborn sense of morality. A Gothic sci-fi melodrama. S131

FOUR SIDED TRIANGLE (1953) Barbara Payton, James Hayter. A scientist invents a duplicating machine and reproduces the woman he loves because she's fallen for another man. After creating a look-alike android, the duplicate also falls in love with the other man. S024

INVASION OF THE ANIMAL PEOPLE (1962) John Carradine, Robert Burton. Aliens land in Lapland and deposit a giant, furry monster that creates havoc with the local natives. Shot on location in Lapland by an American crew and English-speaking cast. Pretty good if you can get by the Jerry Warren inserts that were added later. S154

PHANTOM FROM SPACE (1953) Ted Cooper, Noreen Nash. No classic, but an underrated sci-fi opus about a group of people who find themselves pitted against an invisible alien in a lonely observatory. S023 

GIRL IN HIS POCKET (1957) Jean Marais, Genevieve Page, Jean Claude Brialy. An eccentric scientist discovers a method for shrinking people, and uses his girlfriend as a guinea pig. A rare French sci-fi comedy. S160 

TERROR IS A MAN (1959) Francis Lederer, Greta Thyssen. Excellent sci-fi/horror opus shot in the Philippines and starring an all-English speaking cast. A scientist transforms a panther into a man-like creature that goes on a rampage. S055 

JUDEX (1963) Channing Pollock, Francine Berge, Edith Scob. A marvelous masked superhero film about Judex, master of disguises, who seeks to avenge his father's death. Lots of action and fun. In French, subtitled in English. S135

INVISIBLE AVENGER (1958) Richard Derr, Mark Daniels. This was thought to be a lost film. Lamont Cranston--"The Shadow"--uses invisibility in his investigation of a murdered New Orleans jazz band leader. S049 

NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST (1958) Michael Emmet, Ed Nelson, Angela Greene. A spaceship returns to Earth carrying an astronaut who's been impregnated by alien embryos. Also on board is an alien monster that terrorizes a group of research scientists in their mountain laboratory. Great fun! S140 

PLANETA BURG (aka PLANET OF STORMS, 1962) Vladimir Temelianov, Gennadi Vernov. A sci-fi master- piece! Cosmonauts land on Venus to find themselves in peril by various alien monstrosities. This appears to be the actual print that Roger Corman used to make parts of the negatives to Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet and Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women (the film cans were addressed to Roger). The print was later embossed with subtitles. In Russian, subtitled in English. From a beautiful 35mm print. S156

VOYAGE TO THE PLANET OF PREHISTORIC WOMEN (1968) Mamie Van Doren, Mary Mark. This Roger Corman hodge-podge features Mamie as the leader of a tribe of alien women who hang out on the beaches of Venus. They're visited by Russian cosmonauts who face many perils, including a pterodactyl. Directed by Peter Bogdanovich, under the pseudonym Derek Thomas. Contains footage from Planeta Burg.

THE KILLER SHREWS (1959) James Best, Ken Curtis, Ingrid Goude. This is what low-budget '50s sci-fi is all about. Scientists develop a breed of giant, carnivorous shrews that terrorize a group of people on a small island. Great fun. Highly recommended! S058

 THE GIANT GILA MONSTER (1959) Don Sullivan, Lisa Simone. Much of the same low-budget charm as its companion film, The Killer Shrews. A gigantic lizard terrorizes a small Texas community. S059

THE AMAZING TRANSPARENT MAN (1959) Douglas Kennedy, Marguerite Chapman. An escaped bank robber is subjected to an atomic ray machine that renders him invisible. He then breaks into a military installation to steal radioactive materials. A likable low-budget schlocker directed by Edgar G. Ulmer. S056

BEAST OF YUCCA FLATS (1961) Tor Johnson, Tony Cardoza. Tor plays a Russian scientist who's caught in a nuclear blast. The radiation transforms him into a rampaging desert monster. The film was shot shot silent, and narration was dubbed in later. A truly awful movie. Some brief topless nudity is featured in the opening rape scene. S141

JUNGLE HELL (aka JUNGLE BOY, 1955) Sabu, David Bruce, George E. Stone. A real; rarity as an Indian jungle tribe is threatened by a flying saucer, mysterious rays, and radioactive rocks. S040

RETURN OF DR. MABUSE (aka THE PHANTOM MEETS THE RETURN OF DR. MABUSE, 1961) Lex Barker, Gert Frobe, Wolfgang Preiss. Sequel to The 1000 Eyes of Dr. Mabuse. Detectives are again on the trail of the maniacal Mabuse, who plans to overrun a giant metropolis with an army of zombies. S143

TESTAMENT OF DR. MABUSE (aka TERROR OF THE MAD DOCTOR, 1962) Gert Frobe, Wolfgang Preiss, Senta Berger. Well done remake of Fritz Lang's 1933 classic. The head of an asylum is controlled by the spirit of the dead evil genius Dr. Mabuse, who had hypnotized him. S155

THIS IS NOT A TEST (1962) Seamon Glass, Mary Morlas. Social science fiction at its best. A state trooper stops people along a highway after hearing news of an impending nuclear attack. Good drama as cast members fight and quarrel over what to do before the bombs hit. S075

THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN'T DIE (1963) Herb Evers, Virginia Leith. Sleazy schlock at its finest. A crazed scientist keeps his decapitated fiancee's head alive in a pan, then goes hanging around strip joints to look for a replacement body. Look out for the coneheaded monster in the closet. This is the totally uncut version! Disturbing, gross, and incredible. Highly recommended! S122

THE YESTERDAY MACHINE (1963) Tim Holt, James Britton. Here's a real rarity. Produced in Texas for the local drive-in circuit, this schlocker is about a fugitive Nazi scientist hiding out in a old house in the wilds of the Texas prairie. He invents a time machine so he can go back to 1945 and save Hitler from suicide. A truly bizarre oddity. S078

ALPHAVILLE (1965) Eddie Constantine. Classic sci-fi! A detective is sent into a strange, futuristic city to find and rescue a missing scientist. Dubbed in English. Directed by Jean-Luc Goddard. S087

THE WAR GAME (1965) Michael Aspel, Peter Graham. Beware! This is a tremendously powerful semi-documentary about a worldwide nuclear attack and its affect on a small English town. Brutal and shocking in its depiction. Not for the squeamish. Highly recommended! S127

PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE (1959) Gregory Walcott, Tom Keene, Bela Lugosi, Tor Johnson, Vampira. The film that made Ed Wood a legend. Aliens use the bodies of the dead to become their murdering zombie slaves. The best of the worst! S106

THE FLESH EATERS (1962) Martin Kosleck, Byron Sanders. One of the greatest low- budget black & white shock- ers of all time. A mad ex- Nazi scientist breeds a strain of flesh-devouring bacteria on a desert island, using victims of a shipwreck as guinea pigs. Amazing, grue- some special effects. TEENAGERS FROM OUTER SPACE (1959) David Love, Dawn Anderson. Teenage aliens plan to use Earth as the breeding ground for a species of lobster monsters. However, one of the invaders turns on his comrades when he falls in love with an Earth girl. One of those "it's so bad, it's good" kind of movies. S052

THE WASP WOMAN (1959) Susan Cabot, Fred Eisley, Michael Mark. The head of a cosmetics firm finds herself changing into a wasp-like monster after using a youth-restoring beauty cream. Good fun! S051 

ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES (1959) Yvette Vickers, Ken Clarke, Bruno Ve Sota. A top of the line drive-in classic. Radiation turns ordinary leeches into giant, bloodthirsty monsters. An unforgettable performance by the sexy Vickers. Highly recommended! S053 

THE 1000 EYES OF DR. MABUSE (1960) Gert Frobe, Peter Van Eyck, Wolfgang Preiss. The final directorial effort from the great Fritz Lang. An evil genius uses a luxury hotel, filled with scientific devices, as his headquarters. Well done, with a terrific climax. S126

INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN (1956) Lon Chaney, Casey Adams. Another old '50s sci-fi standard we all grew up with. Chaney is "The Butcher," an executed killer who is brought back to life and seeks revenge against those who sent him to the electric chair. S043

JOURNEY BENEATH THE DESERT (aka L'ATLANTIDE, 1961) George Riviere, Jean Louis Tritigant. The next-to-last film for cult director Edgar G. Ulmer. Three lost aviators discover the entrance to the lost city of Atlantis at a nuclear blast site. The face many perils and find themselves pitted against an evil queen. S142

GIANT OF METROPOLIS (1961) Gordon Mitchell, Bella Cortez. A weird, atmospheric sci-fi adventure. An ancient supercity is the setting for strange experiments, torture and intrigue. An "Atlantis" style climax. S064

THE PHANTOM PLANET (1961) Dean Fredericks, Coleen Gray, Francis X. Bushman. An enjoyable and underrated sci-fi opus about an astronaut stranded on an invisible planetoid. There he finds a race of miniature people menaced by a fleet of alien monsters. Wonderful stock sci-fi music score. S065

ATOM AGE VAMPIRE (1962) Susanne Loret, Alberto Lupo. A mad scientist uses weird glandular transplants to restore beauty to the horribly scarred face of the woman he loves. While he's doing all this, he has occasion to turn into a hideous monster and vent his wrath on some of the locals. S072

THE ATOMIC BRAIN (aka MONSTROSITY, 1963) Frank Gerstle, Judy Bamber. A mad scientist is hired by a millionaire spinster to transplant her brain into the body of a young girl. He gets ticked off at her and transplants it into the skull of a cat instead. One of the biggest turkeys ever made. S079

FIRST SPACESHIP ON VENUS (1963) Gunther Simon, Yoko Tani. An international expedition is launched to the planet Venus. There they find its former inhabitants completely destroyed by atomic war. S080

SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS (1964) John Call, Leonard Hicks, Pia Zadora. Santa is captured by Martians so he can be taken back to Mars and help teach those little Martian brats the real meaning of Christmas. Yikes! S084

VOYAGE TO THE PREHISTORIC PLANET (1965) Basil Rathbone, Faith Domergue. Although he's not listed in the credits, this is one of Roger Corman's 'Russian' films with footage from the Soviet space epic Planeta Burg. The story deals with man's first expedition to Venus. S086

SUPERARGO (aka SUPERARGO AND THE FACELESS GIANTS, 1966) Ken Wood, Guy Madison. For all students of Santo and Neutron movies, here's something you won't want to miss: a European, superhero, masked wrestler. Campy. S116

BRIDE OF THE MONSTER (1955) Bela Lugosi, Tor Johnson. A "bad" classic from Ed Wood. Lugosi is quite good as a mad scientist conducting strange atomic experiments in an old dark house next to a lake containing a monster octopus. S038

ASSIGNMENT OUTER SPACE (1962) Rick Von Nutter, Archie Savage. The massive force field on a runaway space station threatens to destroy the Earth. Very atmospheric, with excellent cinematography. S073

HIDEOUS SUN DEMON (1959) Robert Clarke, Patricia Manning. After exposure to radiation, an atomic research scientist finds himself changing into a murderous, lizard-like monster every time he's exposed top the rays of the sun. Cheap but lovable. S060
